Government Affairs and Advocacy

Located in the seat of state government, Albany Law School is uniquely situated to offer training and experiential opportunities for individuals seeking to prepare themselves for careers in government affairs, advocacy and lobbying. While a JD degree is often held by lobbyists, lobbyists need not possess a JD degree to engage in government advocacy. With a guided course of study in select areas that prepare a student for a core understanding of the law of government affairs, advocacy, and lobbying, an individual could begin a career in the field of lobbying, on state and local government platforms in New York State as well as other geographic areas. The following course of study would prepare a masters student with the requisite knowledge and skills to enter the field of lobbying without further study.

The school offers a residential Master’s program in Government Affairs and Advocacy. There is also a residential LL.M. program in Government Administration and Regulation. For information on either program, email
